April ER Visit - Week 2

Dear Family and Friends,

What a week! I thought I would start a new post because we are beginning a new week in the hospital. Last week was certainly eventful.

In a nut-shell if you are just reading this post. Lucas is past the major symptoms of the cold he got and on Monday last week I brought him into the ER. He needed some hi-flow, but was quickly weaned and by Wednesday he was settled into having a very wet and gunky cough, he needed oxygen when he sleeps and we were still seeing his chest and stomach physically working hard to breathe.

After a 24hr speed bump of him taking a steroid that made him worse! We stopped that and he's been working through those last symptoms for the last few days.

In all the excitement I DID talk to the people who are going to do his surgery on 5/16 and they had to push it back to 6/11 because he can't have a virus within 4 weeks of the surgery.
Heart surgery is now 6/11.

So today I'm happy to report good news! This morning is the first morning he didn't have his chest and stomach working hard to breathe, he is coughing less, and he's taking a tap right now at 1pm and I haven't had to put him on oxygen!

If he keeps looking this good the rest of the day and doesn't need oxygen tonight. I think if he looks this good tomorrow we can start talking about going home even if it means I have some back up oxygen on hand in case he needs it.

Keep the prayers coming!

UPDATE: 4/22 @ 3pm: We just got the word that if he looks good overnight tonight then we can go home tomorrow! Children's supplies oxygen supplies we can keep at home in case of emergency and someone just dropped those off. So we are officially ready to go home.

Lucas is still coughing but in good spirits. For SOME REASON he woke up at 3am and was wide awake. He didn't go back to sleep until 6:30am. So I'm really dragging today, taking a nap when he naps and we'll both try to get some sleep today. It's so nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Thanks again everyone! I was able to go home last night and Monday night because Caleb and Brianna came to get some snuggles. It was such a huge help!
