Lucas is 8 months old!

Dear Family and Friends,

I have a couple months to make up for, I didn't post when Lucas turned 7 months old.

Here are his 7th and 8 month old photos together. Our October is busy with Natalie kicking off the month turning 5 on October 10th, then Fernando turning 50 on October 23rd and now I'm writing you on my birthday!

Lucas continues to grow and I just recently had a check in with his heart and his VSD (hole in the lower part of his heart) is all but closed and, long story short, that means that he will have his heart surgery between 2-3 years old rather than in the next 6 months! So that's good! If only because the surgery has a higher chance of being successful the bigger he is when he has the surgery.

Lucas as a 7 month old is solidly rolling over, he's sitting in his bumbo seat a lot which give him support until he can sit up on his own and he's eating with us during meals getting some pureed foods. He enjoys eating.

Lucas at 8 months old is beginning to almost sleep through the night, I'm hoping soon because mama needs some sleep! He is still a mostly happy baby and very social, but I've noticed very recently that he's developed a hesitation to have other people hold him. He looks in their face, seems to notice they they aren't mom, and begins a sad little quiver to his lower lip and will cry! He has been able to be soothed by those with the skills, but this is certainly a change from his personality up til now. He's been willing to go to anyone! I suspect that he will return to that mentality after a bit. Especially since he has such a wealth of loving people around him. ☺

Lucas has a new cousin! He and I were able to make a quick trip to Florida to visit them for a few days. You can see his proud cousin Saria feeding him and his new cousin Quinn (2 months old) extending the hand of baby friendship. 😁


I am doing alright, I'm trying my best to pump breast milk for Lucas until he's a year old and provide him all that great nutrition and then may have an office space moment of taking my breast pump out and bashing it with a baseball bat a few satisfying times til it is broken to smithereens. I think that will be highly therapeutic. Trying to get as much sleep as I can. 

I have begun to build a support system of talking with you all to see if there are those out there willing to help watch Lucas one day or evening a month so I can get things done and actually be productive in my life. Let me know if that is something you'd like to do! If I don't hear from you I'll be reaching out slowly as I can. :)

3/13/24 @ 1:30pm Hey Guys, Things just got exciting real fast. I went in for a check for Lucas this morning and although his heart beat is strong, they wanted to see him moving around more and my fluid dropped to 2.5 from 3.7 on Monday.  I received directions to get to UW Labor and Delivery which is where I am now and they just finished monitoring Lucas and filling me in that they advise doing a c-section in the next hour! So here we go people! I also wrote a blog post early this morning for anyone who wants to read it, cuz I'm writing this on my phone and it'll be hard to delete. I'll send pictures once can! Fluid Found - 29 Weeks

Update as of Tuesday, January 30th, 2024  Hey guys,  If you are seeing this, thank you so much for being here. I feel like I got sucker punched in the stomach today. Summary They have found fluid building in the baby's chest with the latest ultrasound. They now need to monitor me weekly to see how quickly fluid is building up. If fluid builds up to much it will also endanger my health so if I have danger signs then I'll have to have the baby early, but the earlier I have him, the more at risk he is to not survive. So the timer is on. We want to get him as close to 37 weeks as possible which is the 3rd week of March at the earliest. They saw the fluid around the lung and didn't think it was related to the heart. Lucas back in the Hospital

Dear Family and Friends, Hello again! I am in a position of needing to ask for support and prayers again. What has started out as a common cold and a 5 day ICU stay to support Lucas' breathing has turned into a 2 week hospital stay and we have boomerang'd back into the ICU as of today. I'll put more details below for those interested, but basically I expected that he would be better after a week or so of hospital stay and now we are entering our 3rd week and it is clear I need to give up expectations and embrace this amazing opportunity to practice living in the present. Luckily it isn't hard to focus on holding little Lucas and bring my focus to gratitude for his little hands and feet and his soft head.
