ER Visit - 1/27/25

1/27/25 ER Visit

10am - at pediatrician office,  temp 101.1, took flu & covid swab

11am - called back with results of swab,  positive for influenza A

11:30am - Gave him 2mls of acetaminophen 

6:30pm - noticed Lucas was breathing fast,  decided to take him in. Also thought his hands and feet looked a bit purple 

7pm - in the car

8pm - checked into ER

8:15 - got into triage room 100°F temp

Got suction - got a little out. Mostly clear. Saw doctor, definitely working to breath,  had respiratory person come in. She wants to put on low level oxygen just to alleviate breathing heavy. Oxygen saturation is good

8:35 - got into room 12

Saw doctor,  confirmed they are going to try some oxygen and observe him for a while

9pm - deep suction, he's been eating well.

9:30pm - they think he's breathing a little better after the suctioning. Holding off on oxygen for now.

10pm - his color looks much better,  his fever is down to 99 and hes breathing better. If he keeps looking this good for the next couple hours then we can go home!

10:30pm - deep suction. Didn’t get much

10:40pm - Lucas fell asleep. His breathing is fast again 50-60

11:15pm - the respiratory gal came in to evaluate him and his breathing calmed down woke she saw him but it would pick up for a bit and his oxygen saturation dipped a bit so she put him on a low flow of oxygen. 2mls. He's definitely going to be admitted.

Midnight: temp 97.9

1/28/25

1am - got moved into our room RC.4.909. Have a room to ourselves. Lucas is pretty fidgety with the canula in so he hasn't let me put him down yet to sleep on his own. We'll see how the rest of the night goes.

3:30am - nurse reduced his oxygen flow to 1 mls

6:30am - nurse turned off his oxygen.


They said the dr would do rounds between 9am-11am but they haven't come by yet. Someone is looking at lucas' case because they took him off his monitors at 10:30am. I hope that means they think he looks good enough to go home.

11:30am - they took his temperature and it was back up to 100.1 so they gave him some tylenol.

12:30pm - talked with doctor and agreed he could be discharged.

1pm - got discharge papers.

Dear Family and Friends, Hello again! I am in a position of needing to ask for support and prayers again. What has started out as a common cold and a 5 day ICU stay to support Lucas' breathing has turned into a 2 week hospital stay and we have boomerang'd back into the ICU as of today. I'll put more details below for those interested, but basically I expected that he would be better after a week or so of hospital stay and now we are entering our 3rd week and it is clear I need to give up expectations and embrace this amazing opportunity to practice living in the present. Luckily it isn't hard to focus on holding little Lucas and bring my focus to gratitude for his little hands and feet and his soft head. I am also so humbled and grateful for those who have stepped up to help us with this current hospital stay! 3rd Trip to the Hospital

Dear Family and Friends, I texted a few of you for prayers, so I thought I'd sit down and let people know what happened and loop in the greater community because we can use all the prayers we can get! I am in the hospital with Lucas again! I learned my lesson from last time when I expected to get out quickly to not wait to send out an e-mail asking for prayers! We're just taking things as they come with Lucas so we'll discover what is going this time! So, at 2am today 6/10 (1.5 weeks after discharge from the last hospital stay!) I woke up because Lucas was fussing around and turned out he had monster colossal pooped all up everywhere. Lucas is 6 months old and back in the hospital!

Dear Family and Friends, Lucas is 6 months old as of last Friday! Our little man is getting so big! He's just barely holding up his head now. Hasn't quite rolled over yet, but working on it. I was hoping to send out a lovely note just updating his progress, but as it happens I am writing this from the hospital as Lucas was admitted a few hours ago. This story begins last Friday on his 6-month-i-versary. He happened to have his 6 month check up with his doctor that day as well which means getting updated vaccinations and we also opted to get him a Flu shot to equip him for the upcoming season. That meant 3 shots in his adorable thighs, poor little guy. Like most things he tolerated it like a champ. Only cried a little bit, then took a bottle, and promptly fell asleep. That night he started to feel a bit warm. They get the same vaccinations at 6 months that they do at 4 months and he got a slight fever for the evening after his 4 month vaccinations so I expected a fever. The next...
