Gtube Placed!

Hello Family and Friends, I write to you in a surreal state this evening. Even more so than Lucas' heart surgery, which was a huge milestone, I feel a sense of relief and a milestone. Even when the heart surgery was scheduled (and rescheduled 4 times!) we knew that there were 2 small procedures that still needed to be completed. Tubes in his ears which happened on October 3rd. It was a very quick procedure and I took him home that day, but he DID need to be put under anesthesia so that is always a bit nerve wracking. The other procedure was for a gtube. It became clear that he probably won't recover the ability to eat fully by mouth any time soon so a great solution is to have a simple procedure where they make an incision in the front of his belly above and to the right of his belly button and insert a small apparatus that can be opened and closed where his feeding tube can be connected. Updated 8/2 2pm: Recovery & Home!

Hello Family and Friends, I'll send out an e-mail this morning and continue to update this post as we go along with Lucas' recovery so feel free to check back here if you wonder how he's doing. 😊 I can kick of day 1 of recovery to say he's doing so very well! I went home last night and didn't realize how tired I was until I got there and couldn't keep my eyes open! I slept so hard and throughout the night, feel very energized this morning. I also listened something by Sr. Miriam Hedlund about love and healing and allowed myself to cry all the way into the hospital which got some much needed energy out. Pressing into love more profoundly has been so transformational for me in the last few months navigating all this helping me to simply BE with what is happening right now instead of going off on tangents in my head worrying about things and feeling bad for being detached or needing to cope. ER Visit 5/10/25 (Day 5) Going Home!

Update: 5/14/25 (Day 5) - They took Lucas off high flow last night and he looks good this morning. They also took his blood and his kidney function looks good. So we get to go home! They want to check his blood again on Friday to be absolutely sure that his kidneys are still functioning well, but we can do that out of the hospital. Thank goodness! Update: 5/13/25 (Day 4) - There is nothing concerning on the echo, it looks really similar to the last one he had in March. So the plan is to continue to wean Lucas off the high flow support he's getting now (which is minimal). He will be weaned off completely by tomorrow morning. The other piece is to see how much diuretics he needs to be comfortable until his surgery. They have him on Lasix twice a day and have started hydrochlorothiazide to see if that gives him the last boost he needs.
